Description

The Volunteer and Service-Learning Center's Alternative Break program provides incredible opportunities to engage students in powerful volunteer and community experiences, while developing strong teamwork and leadership skills. These alcohol and drug-free events provide Buffalo State students the opportunity to learn about social topics and community assets, get to know fellow classmates and community members, make an impact and have fun during their fall, winter, spring, and summer break! Since 2010 students have participated in various breaks, including those with a focus on poverty, Hurricane Sandy relief, regional renewal, trail building, and honoring and assisting veterans. Through the student leadership team, past participants have an opportunity to not only serve during the Alternative Break trips, but also to be the guiding force for the growth of the program, including coordinating service projects, facilitating education and reflection pieces, recruiting fellow students, and organizing fundraising activities.
