Abstract
Explores current issues and trends in early childhood education, their sources and impact on best practices in the early childhood classroom related to expectations, curricula, assessment, and other initiatives. Evaluates implications for early childhood programs/settings, diverse families and communities. Emphasizes the historical and political context for change and advocacy for sound educational practices and policies for the future.
