Abstract
The reason I chose museum studies as a focus for my research project stemmed from my own experiences in museums and my education in Art History. As a High School student, I experienced visits to The Albright-Knox Art Gallery on a yearly basis. Visiting Art galleries and museums continued throughout my college education and I was always artistically inspired by my visits. I also learned more about the world around me and how to express my opinions and feelings through Art. My research project addressed the question: Can museum studies enrich the learning process and increase cognitive thinking skills in other subjects as well? During this project, I investigated the use of museum studies and Virtual Museums in the Buffalo area. I also wanted to find out how students responded to original artwork when they visited Art museums. Using Art museum studies in Art curriculum can motivate students while increasing vocabulary and communication skills. This research suggests that visiting Art museums can have a positive impact on student learning and may open up new avenues to them. Teachers can also benefit from these experiences. The results illustrate that museum studies can serve as a useful tool for Art teachers to use in their teaching while including other subjects in their yearly curriculum.
