Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify and evaluate the critical thinking strategies being used in my classroom. The motivation and rationale behind this specific action research project was to rectify issues I identified in my own teaching and my students’ performance regarding critical thinking in planning and executing works of art. Two additional goals of this two part action research project were to develop helpful additions and changes to the strategies I was using to foster critical thinking in my classroom and then to implement those changes and observe how my students responded. Most of the data was collected through inductive analysis of worksheets, student products, and field notes taken during lessons. I found students’ feedback and the analysis of students’ products to be very informative. This action research project led to several successful additions and changes to my students’ creative problem solving processes. The outcomes of the project have also facilitated the development of critical thinking skills in my students.
