1st Lieutenant Antoni Dwoniarek (formerly a police commissioner in Poland); 1st Lieutenant Włodzimierz Drzewieniecki, instructor, Officer Cadet School; 2nd Lieutenant Józef Maciąg (seated) at what was referred to by the Polish military as a “grzybek slużbowy” (“official mushroom”) because of its appearance. El-Agami, near Alexandria, Egypt, October 1941. Independent Carpathian Rifle Brigade (Samodzielniej Brygady Strzelców Karpackich [SBSK]). (Maciąg was killed during a British Army special forces’ operation in Yugoslavia in 1943.)
