Strait Magazine (September 1971—May 1972)
Strait was a twice-monthly magazine of politics, arts, and commentary written mostly by students of Buffalo State, with some notable contributions from faculty. The mission of the magazine was to deeply report on the big issues and events of the era—the Vietnam War, the draft and its resisters, peace marches, prison uprisings such as Attica, and broader social issues such as the women’s liberation movement and gay rights—which were not being covered in the student newspaper, The Record. The arts also were heavily covered, including both on campus, in the Buffalo community, and nationally.
