Description
There seems to be a significant drop in student engagement when learning in a virtual environment. This study intended to investigate how co-constructing curricula with virtual students impacts engagement. Previous research has indicated that co-constructing curricula positively affects student engagement as they are given more agency over their own learning, and therefore become more intrinsically motivated within their classes. Through completing surveys and having class discussions, student researchers indicated to the teacher researcher their interests and how they best learn. The student and teacher researchers developed a unit plan about landscape artwork and watercolor painting together based on student interests. While there weren’t any extensive findings regarding the impact of co-constructed curricula on virtual student engagement, the data revealed valuable implications about behavioral engagement indicators in a virtual environment.
