Doing the Same Thing Differently: Making Art and Teaching in Thailand

Art Education graduate students traveled to Thailand in July 2012 to learn about Thai culture, art, and educational practices. For part of the trip our traveling companions were well-known Thai visual artists and their art students. While traveling by barge down one of the country's major rivers, we explored temples and historic sites, visited and learned from community artisans, and co-taught in a rural elementary school. The result was that each of us made an artwork culminating in a group show in Bangkok. What our students came back with was a better understanding of what it means to be an artist and an educator in a multicultural society.
