How disasters and emergencies are individually defined and conceptualized, history of disaster and emergency management in the United States, phases of disaster management, phases of emergency management, politics of disaster response and humanitarian aid, and political landscape of disaster recovery and social change. Primary focus on the United States; international examples utilized.
