Abstract

Biography: Joy Kogawa is an award-winning author who became a member of the Order of Canada in 1986 and of the Order of British Columbia in 2006. She is recognized for her novels, poetry, essays, children's stories, and social activism; she is best known for Obasan (1981), a semi-autobiographical novel about the internment of Japanese Canadians during World War II.
