Description

"English Sculptor Visits Art Gallery"--Henry Moore, an Englishman recognized as one of the world's leading contemporary sculptors, made his first visit to the Albright-Knox Art Gallery Thursday and liked what he saw.

"I've heard a great deal about your art gallery here and it is every bit as beautiful as its descriptions," said Moore. "It's not only the appearance of the gallery which is imposing, but the excellent of the collections and the manner of display."

The gallery has three of Moore's major works: Reclining Figure, carved from elmwood in 1935 and acquired in 1939, near the front door of the new section; Internal and External Forms, elmwood, done in 1953 and acquired in 1955, at the top of the stairway, and Bronze Reclining Figure No. 1, done in 1959 and acquired in 1961 in the courtyard. -September 23, 1965
