Ihab Mosa Basha & Abdelmuniem Mohamed

Under the direction of Dr. Joan DellaValle

School accreditation organizations aim to enhance the ability of educational institutions to develop and improve their performance and outcomes by using research based standards and indicators to measure the quality of school operations. This study aimed to assess the effect of the school accreditation process, especially Qatar National School Accreditation (QNSA) on raising teachers’ and educators’ awareness of the importance of the implementation of higher order thinking skills (HOTS). The research focused on the twenty-first century skills among students in the fifth and sixth grades, specifically in four private schools offering British curriculum in Qatar. The most important components that are examined in this research are the curriculum planning and formative and summative assessments that are designed to gauge and enhance students' critical thinking skills, The final results were aligned with the research hypothesis in the presence of a positive impact of the Qatar national school accreditation (QNSA) on the development of students' higher thinking skills. Further research in the area is needed for creating a more comprehensive understanding of the impact of QNSA accreditation on schools that use other curricula, as well as on teachers who teach different year levels.
