Description

Faculty and staff of the Music Department, PAC and Yamaha Inc, joined forces to design and implement a truly unique multi-channel sound diffusion environment in the Ciminelli Hall. This concert hall, located on the 3rd floor of the Rockwell building was outfitted with two major technological improvements. The first, a virtual acoustics system (AFC - Audio Field Control), boasts the overall acoustics of the room, providing stunningly clear sonic ambiences. The second consists of a totally innovative modification of the base AFC system. The modification allows sounds to be discretely positioned in any of the 53 speakers scattered within the hall. This original and vast surround sound system marks the beginning of a new era both locally and internationally, in research, teaching and performance of works using multi-channel sound.
