Abstract

The study of art from an anthropological perspective using case studies from the Indigenous cultures of North America from the pre-contact period until today. Examination of art and material culture within Indigenous communities. How material culture and art can be used as evidence for human behavior, especially ritual behavior. Historical factors affecting the production and use of material culture and art. Continuity and change within material culture/artistic repertoires.
