Start Date

31-10-2013 11:00 AM

Description

CEURE collaborates with school districts, collegiate partners, and community stakeholders to improve the educational and life outcomes of children attending urban and rural schools. The center supports efforts to recruit, educate, and retain teachers to meet the needs of culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse children. CEURE connects Buffalo State programs with projects that form substantive school improvement initiatives. Since CEURE’s inception, the center has supported more than 40 initiatives, partnering with 133 schools in 9 counties. The Center has secured federal and private grants totaling over $13 million dollars. The primary goals of CEURE are: (1) Recruit and mentor the next generation of urban and rural teachers, especially from underrepresented populations; (2) Identify, share and implement strategies that increase the retention of teachers in high needs schools from the pre-service training through their professional career; (3) Provide leadership and development opportunities to promote and implement successful educational policies and practices for all those concerned with high-needs environments – faculty, teachers, administrators, parents, and community stakeholders; (4) Collaborate with key stakeholders to identify needs and develop strategies that enable schools and communities to respond to issues impacting educational success; (5) Assess, evaluate, and disseminate state of the art knowledge and best practices that promote success of students and teachers in high needs schools. This round table is designed as an open-forum for faculty, staff, and students to learn more about the ongoing projects of CEURE, opportunities for participation, avenues for collaboration, and ways CEURE may be able to help facilitate research and/or work with community partners.
